Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, popularly known as Rabindra Jayanti, is being celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm in West Bengal on May 25.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Kolkata on Monday night, paid homage to Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore at Joda Sanku of Rabindra Bharati University earlier today. Shah also expressed his admiration for Tagore's work, saying that his views on justice and equality shaped India's worldview.
Amit Shah also met with party leaders on Tuesday morning to review the situation in West Bengal and the preparations for upcoming elections. The Union Home Minister will inaugurate the new building of Petrapol police station and attend the program of the Border Security Force (BSF) later in the day.
Shah attended the Rabindra Jayanti celebrations at Science City in the afternoon and met with jawans at the BSF program. Despite being his second visit to West Bengal within a month, Shah did not participate in any political program during this visit.
Before arriving in West Bengal, Amit Shah had taken to Twitter on Monday night, emphasising the importance of Tagore's works for every generation. He also paid tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, saying that his timeless works provided the intellectual foundation for the freedom movement.
